Project Description

The Vision: Breathing Life Into an Old Space

The Material Foundation

In Oreland, the mission was to build with a sense of permanence and soul. We looked at a tired area and saw potential for a cathedral-like sanctuary. $150,000 investment centers on a massive Rough Sawn Oak frame, material that brings unyielding, textured strength to the backyard.

Engineering the Sky

  • Custom Skylights: To ensure the structure of this magnitude remained airy, we pierced a high-pitched ceiling with custom glass.
  • Light Play: Natural light now dances across raw oak grain, balancing the visual density of heavy beams.
  • Standing Seam Roofing: Overhead, professional metal roof provides a sharp, modern silhouette and decades of protection.

The Breakdown: Where Design Meets the Unexpected

The Social Heart: Live-Edge Craftsmanship

True transformation happens where people gather. We anchored a new outdoor living room with a custom-made bar featuring a stunning live-edge top, which serves as a bridge between the rugged oak framework and the refined social atmosphere of the pavilion, grounding the entire design in organic artistry.

Industrial Friction: Repurposed Metal

Authentic design lives in contrast between materials. We integrated repurposed metal across the outside wall, adding an intentional industrial edge to the organic oak framework. “Found-object” aesthetic ensures space feels like a carefully curated architectural legacy rather than a standard addition.

The Screened Sanctuary

  • Total Protection: High-visibility screening wraps the entire perimeter.
  • Usable Luxury: Addition created a more usable, covered destination that stays protected from the elements.
  • Trex Integration: We paired rustic oak with Trex composite decking for a maintenance-free foundation that lasts.

The result? A masterclass in material bravery.

By merging the primitive character of Rough Sawn Oak with modern steel and live-edge wood, Back to Nature gave new life to an old space. Space is now an Oreland icon—a permanent sanctuary built to endure and inspire.
